…the ones that keep you in the know
So, today I’d thought I’d let you in on a little secret. Email newsletters are how I keep on top of everything that is going on in the world. I sign up for a variety of e-blasts that hit my inbox every morning and when I need a break from work, or something to read on the TTC or in a doctors waiting room.
Here is a roundup of the ones I think are worthwhile…
Fashion & Home: For interesting fashion and home decor items, Of A Kind (photo above) is where it’s at. Founders Claire and Erica send out a Monday roundup as well as regular blasts when new products hit their site. Check them out here.
Girly News: It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Londoner or not, Emerald Street is chock full of insider information. Their daily blasts discuss everything from literature, to what to get up to at the weekend. The footer always features a new eatery in a feature called Cocktails and Cappuccinos and the sidebar always features a giveaway or offer. Sign up here.
Laddy News: This is the gents version of Emerald Street – Mr Hyde is also a daily blast from London. My favourite feature: don’t google it sits under the header asking a new trivia question every morning (therefore making you awesome at pub quiz). Mr Hyde is heavy on the design and culture elements but also features mens fashion and similar to it’s feminine counterpart; a restaurant guide called The Urban Carnivore. Sign up here.
For Blog Lovers: So, this one is a little bit of work — but worth it if you’re a regular blog reader. Blog Lovin’ allows you to create a profile (Facebook style) and like all your favourite blogs. You can then choose the frequency you receive an email digest of all the new posts that happened. I have mine on a weekly setup, but if you choose daily it saves the leg work of wandering around the internet trying to figure out who has new posts up. You can sign up here, and don’t forget to follow Home James!
First Thursdays: This seems to be a phenomenon that’s taken the world over. You can sign up for emailer for The Whitechapel‘s version of this fun evening out here. But if you’re not in London, here is Toronto’s version at the AGO.
Job Hunting: A tool we could all use once in a while, The Daily Muse sends out an blast every morning with helpful tips on how to be the best candidate, what to write in a winning covering letter and which companies are the best to work for (and are currently hiring). It’s a bit American but there is still a lot to take note of if you’re on the hunt for your dream job. Check it out here.
Art Collectives: There is a version of this site for Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver — Instant Coffee does it’s best to keep Canadian artists informed of openings, job postings, workshops and more. Get on the bandwagon here.
Lifestyle aka A Little Bit of Everything: We all know Zooey Deschanel, but do you know her website collective Hello Giggles? It’s a site with regular writers and contributors (including reader submissions) on everything from your love life, and entertainment news to the coolest trends in nail polish and cute puppy videos. Seriously, if you need a little break from reality though — this is a one stop shop. You can sign up to the email digest in the footer here.
Home Decor: Not just a magazine, Domino is a go to website for home decor inspiration. Sign up for a profile and you’ll be able to save things you see on their site — a classier version of pinterest. Another advantage to signing up? You’ll receive their newsletter with a breakdown of this month’s features. Click here to get started. Another great one for this category is Home Polish. This site features interior design alternatives meant to help you not break the bank. One of their recent newsletters featured Canadian comedian Kelly Oxford’s home. Get on this band wagon here.
