1. Ballet Bag visits the Royal Ballet
Alice Pennefather recently attended a rehearsal for Don Quixote, the latest offering from The Royal Ballet in Covent Garden. Her photographs of the ladies waiting in the wings are stunning. Their pastel tutus are works of art and it’s interesting to see all the delicate details of the costumes up close. See all of her photos here.
2. Blouin’s Art Info Releases List of Game Changers
They write:
The term “GAME CHANGER” has been used to such an extent that it’s nearly at the point of abuse. But few can doubt the art world landscape of 2014 has drastically changed from years past. For our latest Power List, we looked beyond the usual winner’s circle to those who are resetting the rules from the inside out.
The list contains a variety of ages, genders and nationalities — some recognizable faces, and others are definitely silent contenders. Check out the full list here.
3. Jan Brueghel the Elder Banned from UK Export
artiness reported Monday that The Garden of Eden With the Fall of Man (1613) is in the process of being banned from UK export. The picture sold for £6.8m at Sotheby’s this past July to a foreign buyer:
The UK is pulling out all the stops in its attempt to prevent a landscape painting by Flemish artist Jan Brueghel the Elder from being transported to an overseas buyer. According to the Guardian, the government has issued a temporary export ban to keep the early 17th-century painting in British hands.
A British buyer for the picture needs to be found by March 2015 to meet the requirements of the ban. Get all the details on artnews here.
4. Christie’s Selling Many Paddingtons
Featuring 36 statues from the Paddington Trail, a new online sale benefitting the NSPCC has been mounted at Christie’s. All decorated by noted designers and celebrities, the lots are ranging in price from £600 to a few thousand pounds. The bear crafted by Ben Wishaw (above) is hovering around £3.5k at the moment, but will surely take off before the sale closes on the 7th of January. Get your bids in now at Christie’s Online here.
