Born in 1799, botanist Anna Atkins is credited with creating the first sun prints. Using the cyanotype method of photographic reproduction, she exposed the light sensitive medium in the sun, creating negatives of the flora she placed on the surface. Along with the celebratory Google Doodle (above), The Independent has a full write up on her accomplishments — including many examples of her work.

Ch-ch-check it out!
