I’m a really messy writer. It’s a combination of being left handed and a lack of practice. Recently, there’s been a return to calligraphy happening all over the internet — from blog headers to wedding invitations, place cards and hand addressed envelopes. I’ve rounded up a few tips and tricks to make your writing seem more posh, even if it’s only an illusion. Let me know if you have any interesting techniques, I’d love to hear them.
Wish Wish Wish’s Carrie has discussed the art of hand lettering a few times and she’s becoming quite prolific at it (see above). One of her Favourite Things posts features some great resources to help you get started on your own projects. Check it out here.
Cupcakes & Cashmere is one of my daily go to’s. Emily’s blog is beautifully curated, and she’s an arbiter of obtainable style – using brands that are not hard to come by. Her tutorial for faux calligraphy will help anyone bring their letter writing skills up a notch. Read all about it here.
This video shows the Wouder’s family from Amsterdam in action. A split comparison of a child and adult writing out the alphabet — sounds boring, but is actually really interesting to witness.
Besotted is another go to resource for anything font and calligraphy resources. Tristan does a beautiful job of keeping a well curated site, and she has a lot of great tips for newcomers and pros alike. See all her suggestions here.
