1. Potato Salad Kickstarter
Now, I know this is probably old news to y’all by now — but REALLY? I cannot believe people are still contributing to this ridiculous cause. When I first read about this on Monday it was at $11k, now it’s hovering around $45,000. By donating, contributors aren’t even really supporting a cause, just a dumb thing that went viral. Imagine what most charitable organizations could do with cash like this. Here‘s a little write-up on CNET if you want more insight, and here is a report on what his income tax hit could be.
2. Tips for the Perfect Air BNB in Paris
Travelling to our favourite French destination this summer? Jordan, over at Oh Happy Day has prepared a post to share her secrets to great Parisian accommodation with the masses!
If you haven’t traveled much in Europe the idea of staying in a flat vs. a hotel can seem strange (I had to talk my sister into it recently) but it’s how most people travel in Europe.
She includes advice on different neighbourhoods, as well as maps to help a tourist out. Check out the full post here.
3. DIY Midcentury Side Table
A Beautiful Mess is one of those blogs that I religiously check every day. Everything about their site is so well tailored to my taste — I am made crushing on everything they do! Check out their post on how to build your own midcentury side table from scratch. It provides a wealth of insight, including detailed step-by-step photographs to keep you on track. 4. Tattoo Artists trade Needle for Brush
Last week a new exhibition featuring the work of seventy tattoo artists opened at Somerset House in London. They’ve branched out from their normal media [of flesh] and have turned to more traditional media such as canvas.
An exhibition presenting original artworks from 70 of the world’s most influential tattoo artists including Ed Hardy, Horiyoshi III, Paul Booth, Rose Hardy, Chris Garver, Ami James and Mister Cartoon, curated by fellow tattoo artist Claudia De Sabe and publisher Miki Vialetto.
The artists have stayed true to their style, the works are traditional in subject and the detail is stunning. On until October 5th, and with free admission it’s worth checking out! For those of you abroad, The Guardian featured a sampling this week here.
5. Ellen to Launch Lifestyle Brand
Women’s Wear Daily announced Tuesday that Ellen DeGeneres is to launch a new lifestyle brand in her name.
“I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t want it to be the biggest brand name that you can imagine.”
It’s going to be a capsule collection of gifts for the holidays. The brand will be dubbed Ed (her initials) and will contain lines for the home, and your pets and even some wearable pieces. Read more about this new venture here.
