How To: Make Your Own Cat Toys
what i liked about this project was that it didn’t require going out and getting new supplies, it used items we already had around the house. supplies: scrap bits of felt, twine (for the mouse tail, optional), scissors, needle & thread, cotton balls (to make the toys more plush, optional), and cat nip.
first draw out the shapes you want onto paper. i used a pencil so i could easily erase/adjust as needed. once you have the shapes as you liked, place the paper on the felt and cut out each shape twice (one for each side of the toy).
once you have all of the pieces cut, start to hand stitch the two pieces together about half way. then stuff each with cat nip and cotton balls (to make plush it if desired).
finish hand stitching to seal in the cotton balls & cat nip. add any details you’d like to the exterior of the toy (for the fish i used fabric glue and attached eyes). for the cactus, i stitched & stuffed in stages, because of it’s awkward shape.
maggie loved these toys. she sniffed & tossed them for over an hour. i think the fish was her favourite (she does love our fish caesar, so it’s fitting). even the older cat stitch snatched the shoe to play with.
i think they were a hit!
