Meet Choupette
…she’s one cool cat!
Have you had the pleasure of being introduced to Choupette Lagerfeld? She’s probably the most fashionable cat that ever lived: she resides with Chanel boss Karl Lagerfeld, has a personal staff of three and her favourite toy is a designer carrier bag. Lagerfeld was introduced to his new furry companion when Chanel model Baptiste Giabiconi gave her to the designer to take care of one Christmas – and he never returned her.
Choupette has amassed 40,000 followers on twitter, has a perfectly curated instagram account, and was the subject of a Harper’s Bazaar interview. When Lagerfeld was asked where her loyalties lie, he had this to say about whether she has other favourite humans:
I hope not! But, yes, the two maids, especially one called Françoise. They spend hours together and do her beauty jobs, her hair, and all those things, and they have moments of tenderness with her. They have to write in the book exactly what they’re doing. Because there’s a diary, I know everything.
Lagerfeld is smitten with this kitten. She has inspired a Chanel accessory line (see photos here) and her cult following is still growing. Choupette approved merchandise is highly sought after.
This pampered kitten now has a capsule cosmetic collection called Shupette by Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura. Set to launch this Christmas, the packaging, colour palette and advertising campaign all take her likeness into consideration. The false eye lashes emulate her whiskers and the shadow palette is the key to a perfect cat eye. The packaging features a caricature of her likeness, blue eyes pop and her neck is adorned with a Lagerfeld inspired bow tie.
