Secrets to a Happy Home?
some signs that you’re doing it all right…
I’ve been struggling with life lately. My day job has been super busy (evidence here), my foot is still in a cast (fingers crossed I’ll escape soon), and the last dregs of winter seem to be persisting for ever (really Toronto?). There is light at the end of the tunnel, and thankfully social media has an endless supply of things to keep my mind off of the gray cloud hanging over everything recently.
Helpfully, Apartment Therapy has made a list to remind us all that life isn’t so bad – 5 Unexpected Things Happy People Have in Their Homes was a bit of a revelation. The list goes as follows:
- a mess
- a hobby
- a hand-me down
- a plant
- an almost-used-up luxury
Well, I have all of these things going for me – with one substitution: Cat Middleton replaces a plant as she eats mostly anything I bring home in a vase or a pot and having a living thing around is the key. I do manage to keep her alive, even if I’m not doing a very good job of fending for myself as of late. I frequently have messes lurking in various corners (laundry, art supplies, dishes), Home James is my current hobby, most of my furniture is of the hand-me down variety and the almost-used-up luxuries are many: indulgent candles, pots of designer nail varnish and some luxe stationery just to name a few.
How do you fair with this list? Check out the complete rundown here. It’s a good reminder that everything will be alright.
