…the Renaissance is where it’s at
Have you seen this video by Buzzfeed making rounds on the internet yet? It’s a compilation of the ideal body type of women – with notes. Hello Giggles noted:
BuzzFeed just made our day with their video detailing 3,000 years of women’s “ideal bodies” as described by their own societies. Guys, this is some fascinating stuff. Apparently in Ancient Greece, a woman was simply thought of as a “disfigured man.” The Han Dynasty thought that slim-waisted, big-eyed ladies were ideal.
I do think this is an interesting take on the ideal, and it has been documented for centuries — just check out master pictures from any period. In the end, it’s all based on personal, or even cultural preference. Asian and European ideals will always be vastly different and probably shouldn’t be compared (for sanity’s sake). In the end, the moral of the story is there’s no such thing as perfect.
